Brick Mailbox Design Options

The Brick Doctor pros can help you design a mailbox that best meets your needs and budget.

Even the most basic flat-top brick mailbox can be a very handsome addition to your landscape, but you may want to consider several other factors relating to quality, style, and function.

In designing your brick mailbox, consider these optional features to enhance or personalize it to your liking: It will be a privilege to help you design a mailbox that best matches your home, in brick color and mailbox design and style.  What is a great feature on your home to match?

Standard Arch Top

A semi-circle shaped top is constructed with saw-cut, pie-shaped brick in the radius. These precision brick cuts are made with a diamond-tipped masonry saw, and allow more evenly spaced mortar joints, for a most professional look.

Poor-quality arches use varying widths of mortar to make up for poor–or no– brick cuts.

An eyebrow arch tops off this brick mailbox beautifully.

Eyebrow Arch

A much flatter arch than a semi-circle, shaped more like—you guessed it—an eyebrow! An eyebrow arch tops off this brick mailbox beautifully, and was designed to match the shape of the home’s entry arch.

Does a Steeple Top match your home?

A steeple top tops off this brick mailbox, complimenting the home’s gables. This shape comes to a point at the top, much like a gable on a house. Again, saw cuts are often necessary to achieve professional-looking results.

A Cast Capstone creates an attractive finish for a brick mailbox.

Projecting Courses

Just one projecting course of bricks add a design dimension to this brick mailbox. Projecting courses can add definition to the structure at the top and/or bottom for added depth or interest.

A planter box compliments this brick mailbox design. Caveat–the plants inside do require extra care!

Planter box

Planter boxes may extend on one or both sides to accommodate flowers or other plantings.  The planter box section must have a concrete foundation under them as well. We don’t necessarily recommend these in most circumstances, as the flowers/plants inside may be subjected to severe conditions.

Quoin Corners

Quoin Corners add a design dimension, adding one or more courses of brick that indent or protrude, to match the design of some homes’ corners.

House Numbering Options

Several numbering options are available to clearly identify your address.

The cast stone number block is the best option for making your address highly visible from the street. This is the most popular upgrade for our customers.

Brass Number Plate

A custom-made brass plate is not attached to the outside of the mailbox, but installed into the brick when built. Although quite handsome, note that a brass number plate will tarnish within a few months as shown here, and be less visible, especially at night.

Mailbox Receptacle Options

Your brick mailbox might have a shabby looking receptacle because quite often brick mailboxes are built with cheap metal receptacles that usually just sit on a post and are easily replaced. When they are bricked in, they are quite permanent, and can quickly look bad, but are difficult to replace. Or maybe your brick mailbox has been destroyed and you need a new receptacle. Make sure you get a sturdy replacement.

Let look at a few options. This is by no means a definitive list. Boxes are available in various sizes, and if you find your own, we can help to deal with  mailbox design issues to accommodate your desired mail insert or offer  practical suggestions.

TuffBox®, a heavy-gauge galvanized steel mailbox

Brick Mailboxes built by Brick Doctor come standard with the TuffBox®, a  heavy-gauge galvanized steel mailbox with a  powder-coat finish. This product has proven its reliability over the years.

A top-quality insert like the TuffBox® looks great and helps distinguish a well built brick mailbox from most others.

The Oasis Locking Security Mailbox looks great supported by a beautiful and secure brick structure.

Lockable Security Boxes

Lockable security mailboxes help eliminate mail theft and allow you to safely store several days of mail when you are away. This increasingly popular option helps prevent identity theft and the inconvenience of stopping your mail at the Post Office while away for short periods.

A BetterBox Mailbox Replacement Door kit

Sometimes an otherwise great looking and well built brick mailbox has an insert with  a door or door hinge issues. A great option here is a BetterBox Mailbox Replacement Door.

Your damaged mailbox insert door can be cut off flush with the brick, stone or stucco surface, and be replaced with a spring-loaded cast aluminum BetterBox Mailbox Replacement Door. It utilizes stainless steel hardware and has a UV resistant electrostatic applied power coated black finish. The replacement door is anchored with epoxy and masonry screws.

The Betterbox Insert Replacement door can really spruce up a damaged or deteriorated mailbox receptacle.
